Repeal the sugar tax
People against Sugar Tax has slammed calls for the sugar tax to be extended to milkshakes, and other milk-based drinks.
Last week, in an interview on Newsnight, former Chancellor George Osborne suggested the tax should cover milk-based drinks with high sugar content, and other health campaigners have joined in these calls too.
These campaigners calling for a milkshake tax have got ahead of themselves. They don't even have public support for fizzy drinks to be taxed, let alone milkshakes.
This tax is just a gesture, a bit of red meat thrown to the anti-sugar campaigners that will make no difference to public health. We call on Theresa May to repeal this bizarre tax as soon as possible.
