McDonald's, Mars Confectionery, and Nestle make up just 1.1% of the total UK TV advertising spend

New research by People against Sugar Tax has shown that the top three advertisers of so-called 'junk food' make up just 1.1% of the total TV advertising spend in the UK.

In recent years, online brands have overtaken food companies with the amount of money they spend on TV advertising.

"This new research completely undermines all the stories about children being overwhelmed with TV adverts for so-called 'junk food'.

"The UK TV advertising spend reached £5.27bn in 2015. McDonald's, Mars Confectionery, and Nestle contributed an estimated £55.4m, just 1.1% of the total."
